Who facilitates and with what training
Ask about the credentials of the person guiding practices. Someone with good energy is not necessarily prepared to hold a group wellbeing space.
You deserve a space for pause that speaks your language—literally and emotionally.
If you live in Texas, California, New York or another state and have searched for a wellness retreat, you may have noticed that many options are in English and do not always feel like your own. This guide helps you evaluate any retreat before booking—not only mine—so you know what to ask and what to expect.
Explore upcoming Florida retreatsA wellness retreat is not only a series of yoga poses or a beautiful walk: it is a space where you are meant to lower your guard. That can be more difficult when you must mentally translate every instruction, guided meditation or group conversation.
When a retreat is in Spanish, you do not only understand instructions more easily. Some of the energy used to process language can remain available for what you came to do: pause.
Before you invest your time and money in a retreat, these are useful things to confirm:
Ask about the credentials of the person guiding practices. Someone with good energy is not necessarily prepared to hold a group wellbeing space.
You do not need previous experience or a “yoga body” to participate. If the description feels intimidating or exclusive, it may not be the right space.
Lodging, meals, materials and transportation should be clear before you book, with no surprises on the day.
A smaller group can allow more individual attention and make it easier to build real trust, especially if you are attending alone.
Ask directly how women who do not know anyone else in the group are accompanied.
Look for reviews or past-participant quotes with clear attribution, not only beautiful photographs or generic marketing phrases.

The invisible weight of holding everyone else. Many Latina women carry a caregiving role—for family, partner or community—that is rarely named directly in English-language wellbeing spaces. A retreat designed for you should acknowledge that tension rather than ignore it.
Spirituality without leaving your own at the door. This is not about imposing one tradition, but about making room for your relationship with faith, family or community.
Community that feels like community, not simply a class. There is value in being surrounded by women who understand part of your context without your having to explain it from the beginning.
If you do not live in Florida, the natural question is whether travel is worth it. The answer depends on what you are looking for. If you want an experience in Spanish, with a trauma-informed approach and inclusive yoga, designed with the Latina woman who holds so much for others in mind, Florida may be worth the trip.
I currently facilitate one-day wellbeing retreats in Central Florida and the Volusia County coast. If you are considering travel, first read what to expect from a one-day wellbeing retreat in Florida, where you can find a fuller sense of the experience.
Read the one-day retreat guideNo. Any woman may join, including those traveling from other states. Current retreats are one-day experiences, so if you are coming from out of town, plan travel around the retreat date.
I am Marlene Falcón, an RYT-500 yoga teacher with a trauma-informed approach, and I facilitate wellbeing retreats and experiences in Spanish. I create spaces for women who carry the role of holding everyone else and need a pause where they can feel welcome, safe and free to be themselves.
